Lodena Marion McCoy, daughter of the late Clarence and Velma (Barnes) Lethco, was born in a log cabin in Merrit, Missouri on July 4, 1931, and departed this life on July 11, 2015 at Woodland Manor in Springfield, Missouri. She was 84 years, and 7 days of age.
Velma and Clarence moved to a farm in Ava, Missouri to raise their four daughters and one son. Lodena graduated from Ava High School in 1949, then went to college in Springfield, Missouri to study business. After graduation, Lodena moved to Mountain Grove to work at the Wright County Department of Social Services. It was in Mountain Grove she met her husband, Glenn McCoy, at the skating rink. Glenn worked for the Brown Shoe Company. They married on May 25, 1951, and moved to a farm where they raised their four children: Phillip, Jane Ann, Mark, and Timothy.
From 1965-1967, Lodena worked part time in the insurance office of Clifford Jackson, and for attorney, Al Turner. In 1967, Lodena became the full time legal secretary for Mr. Turner until he was elected judge in 1983. She worked for Noble Leighton, Attorney-at-Law from 1983 to 1995 until he was elected judge. In 1995, Lodena was offered the job of Wright County Probate Clerk working first for Judge Noble Leighton, then later for Judge Lynette Veenstra. She was probate clerk from 1995 until she retired in April of 2005.
Lodena enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with her youngest son Tim, his wife, Anna, and her grandson Alex. She also was able to fly on trips to Colorado and Texas with her daughter Jane Ann and her pilot husband, Bill Johnmeyer. She enjoyed many trips to the river with her oldest son Phillip and middle son Mark. These trips were even more special because she got to enjoy the outdoors with her grandchildren: Kristin, Kendall, and Keenan.
After her husband Glenn passed away on March 18, 1983, Lodena took up going to flea markets. She loved looking for old dishes and antiques. After retirement from the courthouse, Lodena took up family history on her computer. She was very proud of all of her family.
Lodena was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ of Mountain Grove and Cabool. Along with her husband Glenn, she ministered in song at nursing homes, Sunday afternoon singings and many weddings and funerals. She recently stated that as parents, their greatest accomplishment was raising four children, actively involved in the church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, Lodena was preceded in death by her husband: Glenn McCoy; and one brother: Roderick Lethco.
She is survived by three sons: Phillip McCoy of Springfield, Missouri, Mark McCoy and his wife, Shirley, of Willard, Missouri, and Tim McCoy and his wife, Anna, of Beaumont, Texas; one daughter, Jane Ann Johnmeyer and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Missouri, three sisters: Dora Jo Mahan of Ava, Missouri, Fern Bennetts of Fresno, California, and Nancy Fureby and her husband, Duane, of Rocklin, California; four grandchildren: Kristin Kessinger and her husband, John, Kendall McCoy, Keenan McCoy, and Alexander McCoy; one step-granddaughter: Amanda Johnmeyer-Higbee and her husband, Robert; three great-grandchildren: Andrew Kessinger, Felix Kessinger, and Oliver Kessinger; one step-great-grandson: Gunner; and a host of other family and friends.
