Lindell Ray Brumley, son of the late Raymond W. and Catherine Ruth (Byrd) Brumley, was born July 28, 1937, in Caddo, Oklahoma, and departed this life February 4, 2020, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 82 years, 6 months, and 7 days of age.
Although born in Oklahoma, Lindell grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He attended Pollock Pines Grammar School and Eldorado County High School in Placerville, California, and graduated in 1955. He was a pitcher all four years for the ECHS baseball team.
Lindell’s first job was as a fire fighter for the California Division of Forestry from June through November 8, 1955. On November 9, 1955, he began working for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph (PT&T). For the first eight years he was a Lineman and worked in Placerville and surrounding areas, but Lake Tahoe as well. In 1963, Lindell was moved to Sacramento where he was promoted to Communication Consultant in the Marketing Department. In 1968, he was again transferred to Redding and served as Manager for one year. In 1969, he went to San Francisco where he was Manager in various departments and in 1986, he was again in Sacramento where he served as Marketing Manager for Data and Communications Internal Services for Northern California.
Lindell was united in marriage to Carola Jean Starr on February 18, 1988. The two retired from PT&T and moved from the bay area to Mountain Grove, Missouri, in March of 1993. They had a house built on 30 acres, where they raised Black Angus cattle, dogs, cats, ducks, and geese. They have greatly enjoyed living a wonderful life together in the Ozarks. Lindell felt that after living in the bay area and California in general, life in Mountain Grove was Heaven.
In his early years, Lindell was an avid hunter. Later, his interest changed to gardening, puttering, and woodworking in a shop he had specially built where he created ink pens, pepper grinders, candlestick holders, and many other wood projects. Lindell loved life. He was a devoted husband and loved his wife dearly. His children were his pride as were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Lindell was preceded in death by one sister, Ramona Holbrook and husband, Robert Holbrook.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carola Brumley, two daughters, Linda Rene’ Brumley Johnson and Lori Rae Pierce and husband, Tim, granddaughters, Meghan Smith and husband, Brad, and Molly Engerer and husband, Adam, great-grandchildren, Stephen Curtis, Charley Rae, Emma Jane, and Easton, and many friends who will miss him greatly.
