Lida Grace Chism, daughter of the late Edward Clinton and Mabel Irene (Hughes) Patterson, was born July 25, 1935, in Odin, Missouri, and departed this life March 31, 2025, at James River Nursing and Rehab in Springfield, Missouri.
Lida Grace attended grade school at a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Hartville High School with the class of 1953. After high school, she was married and had four children: Phillip, Kathy, Keith, and Pam. Lida Grace worked as a waitress in a restaurant on the mezzanine level of Heer’s Department Store in Springfield, Missouri. She later stayed home to raise her children when they were young. As her kids got older, she decided to become a nurse. She attended classes and earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Cox Hospitals for many years.
Lida Grace was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, Missouri. She was a strong woman of faith and had a very close relationship with her personal Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was very artistic and enjoyed coloring and painting in recent years. She has also shared many of her crafts with her family. Another one of her favorite hobbies was doing word search puzzles. At the assisted living facility, she thoroughly enjoyed all of the facility activities that she could participate in. Lida Grace absolutely loved Mexican Villa! She enjoyed going on outings with her kids and grandkids, especially if they could eat at Mexican Villa while they were out. She always cherished and looked forward to visits from her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mabel Patterson, one son, Phillip Patterson, and two brothers, E.C. Patterson and Terry Patterson.
Lida Grace is survived by three children, Kathy Polacoff and husband, Harry, of Republic, Missouri, Keith Osterloh and wife, Kim, of Springfield, Missouri, and Pam Osterloh of Springfield, Missouri, five grandchildren, Joey Polacoff, Laura Troxel and husband, Aaron, Mandee Olinger and husband, Tony, Mitchell Osterloh, and Jillian Gutherie and husband, Michael Stouffer, four great-grandchildren, Annabelle and David Troxel, and Aliya and Lily Osterloh, one sister-in-law, Kay Patterson of Marshfield, Missouri, and one nephew, Shane Patterson.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Alzheimer's Association, or Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
