Lela Fay (Swope) Kirkland, daughter of the late Vernon and Lela Lucille (Tilley) Swope, was born on January 10, 1925 in Lincoln, Arkansas, and departed this life on April 2, 2012 in Prosperity, South Carolina, at 87 years of age.
Lela grew up and attended school primarily in Arkansas. She was united in marriage to John Turner Kirkland on May 4, 1946 in Washington County, Arkansas. This union was blessed with three sons, David, James, and Michael. John passed away on October 18, 2004.
Lela was a resident of Connecticut for many years. After retirement, Lela and John moved first to a farm near Bradleyville, Missouri and then to Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Her final years were spent with her sons, Michael and James, in Indiana and South Carolina.
Lela was a kind and gentle woman who deeply touched many lives. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister: Jesse Russett.
Lela is survived by her sons: David Kirkland of St. Charles, Missouri, James “Jim” Kirkland of Prosperity, South Carolina, and Michael Kirkland of Carlisle, Indiana; two brothers: John Swope and Don Swope; two sisters: June Valles and Jerre Davis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives, neighbors and friends.

April 11th at 2:00 PM in the
Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation: No Formal Visitation
Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery
