Laveta Ruth Wilson

LaVeta Ruth Wilson, daughter of the late William T. and Mary Frances (Reyner) Poor, was born on May 29, 1922 in Mason City, Nebraska and departed this life on April 18, 2015 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 92 years, 10 months, and 20 days of age.
LaVeta grew up in the state of California. She was a chaperone for the Girls Auxiliary in Imperial Beach at the 1st Southern Baptist Church. There she also taught Vacation Bible School classes. LaVeta was voted Woman of the Year by the Womens Missionary Union.
She greatly enjoyed picnics and bonfires on the beach. LaVeta loved shopping for hats in San Diego with her best friend, Ina Ormsby.
LaVeta was united in marriage to Daniel William Wilson on June 26, 1941 in Rockport, Missouri. Five children were born to this union: Gary, Chris, Carol, Daneta, and Catherine.
In 1960, LaVeta and Daniel moved their family to Missouri. For many years she was a stay at home mother, until she went to work at Conway-Winters Shoe Factory in Willow Springs, Missouri in the late 1960s. Later in the early 1970s, LaVeta worked at Brown Shoe Factory.
LaVeta loved the color pink. She loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, especially one of her favorite players, Jim Edmonds. She enjoyed traveling, canning, and family get-togethers. She was a great seamstress and loved to sew dresses for her daughters.
LaVeta played the piano for her church for many years. In their spare time, LaVeta and Dan attended thoroughbred races and greatly enjoyed watching them race. She loved her flower garden, especially her irises and peonies. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, LaVeta was preceded in death by her loving husband: Daniel William Wilson; her brother: Robert Poor; and one sister: Bonita Wilbourn.
She is survived by her two sons: Gary Wilson, and his wife, Beth, of Riverside, California, and Chris Wilson and his wife, Evelyn, of Vanzant, Missouri; her three daughters: Carol Curtis and her husband, Charles, of Ava, Missouri, Daneta Hines and her husband, Leslie, of Elk Creek, Missouri, and Catherine Love and her husband, Lance, of Springfield, Missouri; one sister: Norma Peters of Quincy, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild due in July; and a host of other family and friends.
