Laverne T. Rodgers, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Stark) Taylor, was born November 24, 1920, in Macomb, Missouri, and departed this life June 28, 2018, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 4 days.
Laverne grew up around Macomb, Missouri, and attended Hickory Flat School. She married Clarence Verlin Rodgers on April 16, 1938, in Mansfield, Missouri. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska, in August of 1942. In addition to working several years as a nurse aide, Laverne greatly enjoyed listening to gospel music, gardening and canning, and mushroom hunting. She was an excellent cook. Laverne accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and attended Omaha Christian Center until moving to a nursing home in 2010.
Besides her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin Rodgers; one son, Sidney Wayne Rodgers; a daughter and son-in-law, Velma and Kenneth Bujarski; a brother, Oliver Taylor; and one sister, Maye Ward.
Laverne is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carl “Ed” and Annette Rodgers, LaVista, Nebraska; a son and fiancée , Kevin Rodgers and Jacque Vashon, both of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Delores “Dee” Kennedy of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and James Harriman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and one sister, Faye Bradshaw of Mountain Grove, Missouri. In addition, Laverne was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many friends who will all miss her very much.
