Lavena Lou Mitchell

LaVena Lou Mitchell, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, formerly of Raymondville, the daughter of Lyndle Lewis and Mary Frances (Day) Zumwalt, was born on October 28, 1956 in Rolla, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 51 years, 9 months and 7 days of age.
LaVena grew up and attended school in Raymondville and Houston. She obtained her G.E.D. and later a B.S. in education. She was employed by the Lee Factory in Houston until their closing. She later worked for Houston Sportswear and also the Cracker Jack cleaning service in Mtn. Grove until her health started failing.
She was married to Dewey Q. Barton on February 1, 1973. Two children were born to this union. They divorced in 2002. She married Allen Mitchell on June 27, 2003. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for the past few years.
While living in Mtn. Grove she attended the United Baptist Church east of Mtn. Grove as long as her health permitted.
LaVena enjoyed being a homemaker, taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews, whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her father: Lyndle Zumwalt and by her grandparents.
Survivors include her husband: Allen Mitchell of their home; her mother: Mary Zumwalt of Houston, Missouri; her son: Dewey Barton Jr. of Junction City, Kansas; her daughter: Amy Leggett and her husband, Roger, of Cabool, Missouri; three grandchildren: Lacey, Brittany and Tyler Leggett; three step-daughters: Jackie Emerick, Chauncie Mitchell and Kristen Mitchell; one brother: Gary L. Zumwalt and his wife, Peggy, of Holden , Missouri; one sister: Mary Ann Cooper and her husband, Jack, of Houston, Missouri; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.

Friday, August 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation:
Thursday, August 7, 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
