Larry Dixon

January 19, 1937 — September 30, 2023

Larry Ray Dixon, son of the late Hugh and Edna (Mosier) Dixon, was born January 19, 1937, in Cumberland, Iowa, and passed away September 30, 2023, at NHC Healthcare in West Plains, Missouri. He was 86 years, 8 months, and 11 days of age.

Larry grew up in Carbon, Iowa, and attended school there and in Corning, Iowa, through the eighth grade. He moved to Loveland, Colorado, for a brief time and later returned to Iowa. He received his GED in 1957.

Larry started the work force at the age of ten carrying water for a bluegrass farm. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era and Peacetime serving in the Air Force from January 21, 1954, to January 20, 1964. His military career took him on several journeys. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for Boeing in Yuma, Arizona.

In 1978, Larry married Florence Hannan. After her passing, he moved to Drury, Missouri, in 1990. He soon met Roberta (Turner) Alsup and they were married in 1991. He had a strong love for Roberta and her family. They had many journeys of their own. They both loved to travel and they served in mission fields in the Dakotas. They were active in Cub Scouts and with their church. Larry was a talented woods crafter and made several toys over the years for the grandchildren.

Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized and confirmed on February 20, 1965. He conferred his Melchizedek priesthood on December 1, 1991, and High Priest on November 15, 1992.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Dixon, his second wife, Roberta Dixon, two step-sons, Shelt Alsup and Dale Alsup, three brothers, Albert, Vernon, and Darwin, and two sisters, Alice and Lucy.

He is survived by two step-sons, Dan Alsup and his wife, Jan, and Steve Alsup and his wife, Deb, ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
