Kurt Meglan

September 27, 1970 — July 25, 2024

Hartville

Kurt James Meglan, son of James Meglan and the late Kathey Meglan, was born September 27, 1970, in Ottawa, Illinois, and passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2024, at home in Hartville, Missouri. He was 53 years, 9 months, and 28 days of age.

Kurt grew up and attended school through the eighth grade in Ottawa, Illinois. He moved with his family to Sherman, Texas, when he was in the ninth grade. He later graduated from Sherman High School with the class of 1988, then attended Grayson Community College. Kurt met the love of his life, Renee Davis, in high school, but destiny didn’t bring them back together for a while. After school, Kurt moved to Greenfield, Indiana, where he worked for Phar-Mor.

Kurt reconnected with Renee, and they were united in marriage on July 25, 1992. Two children were born to this union, Allison Grace and Jacob James. They shared 17 years together before Renee passed in 2010. Kurt passed away on what would have been their 32nd wedding anniversary. Kurt and Renee founded Meglan Marketing and they worked side by side together until her passing. He continued to run their business while also juggling all the responsibilities of being a wonderful single dad.

For the past 14 years, his two children have been the most important focus of Kurt’s life. He enjoyed watching and listening to Allison’s beautiful voice and watching her musical recitals at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He loved coaching and attending Jacob’s baseball games and being involved with the Hartville Eagles team and coaches. He was also involved in all their other activities and interests throughout the years. Kurt absolutely loved baseball, whether it was playing as a young man, coaching, or watching. His favorite Major League team was the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs.

Kurt was preceded in death by his wife, Renee Michele Meglan, his mother, Kathey Meglan, his grandparents, Robert and Theresa Meglan, his father-in-law, Tony Davis, uncles, John Davis, Tom Meglan, Terry Meglan, and aunt Jill Rahling.

He is survived by his children, Allison Meglan and Jacob Meglan of Hartville, Missouri, his father, James Meglan and his wife, Robin of Manteca, California, his brother, Kevin Meglan and his wife, Cori of Lake Ozark, Missouri, his mother-in-law, Marcia Davis of Hartville, Missouri, and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends who will miss him.

Throughout his life, Kurt always served others first, both at work and at home. His kind smile, sense of humor, and caring spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
