Kathryn Coffman

April 15, 1918 — November 25, 2017

Ruth Kathryn Coffman, daughter of the late James A. and Elizabeth (Scott) Bryant, was born April 15, 1918, in Gravel Point, Missouri, north of Mountain Grove, and passed away November 25, 2017 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 99 years, 7 months, and 10 days of age.

Kathryn graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1935 and attended Draughon Business College in Springfield, Missouri. She married Raymond Coffman on December 1, 1946. Two children were born to this marriage.

Kathryn worked for MFA Exchange as a bookkeeper for several years. She and Raymond owned Mountain Grove Dairy Queen for about four years. They started Coffman Van Lines in 1953 and also owned Coffman Mini-Storage which is still operating.

Kathryn was active in Eastern Star and P.E.O as well as many other clubs and organizations, Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Alumni Park Association. She and Raymond loved the community and always contributed to make things better. They helped a group of concerned citizens to save the administration building at the State Fruit Experiment Station, securing it on the National Historic Register. She also helped save the old city jail building, creating a group of concerned citizens who formed the Mountain Grove Central Arts Council. They secured the old jail and it was placed on the National Historic Register and is currently being used as a museum of local history. Kathryn and Raymond were charter members of the MGHS Memorial Foundation, helping alumni build a beautiful Alumni Park centered around the old spring house, which was scheduled to be demolished. They joined a small group of fellow alumni who each signed a bank note to help get the construction of the park underway and was instrumental in getting the springhouse placed on the National Historic Register. She loved her community and its citizens. Kathryn was a remarkable woman and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in June 2001, one son-in-law, Bill Perry, and her siblings, Freeland, James, Andrew, Brodie, Jimmy, and Betty.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth Perry and Terry Ray Coffman and his wife, Mary, four grandchildren, Amanda Garrett and her husband, Chris, Kristen LoGreco and her husband, Mark, Ashley Bement and her husband, Zach, and Charles Coffman, seven great-grandchildren, Will, Jacob, and Braden Garrett, Grayson and Perry LoGreco, Carter and Chase Bement, and many other relatives, friends, and church family.
