Juell June Gass, daughter of the late Homer and Isa Bell (Huffman) Roy was born June 24, 1923 near Oletha, Missouri in Douglas County and departed this life July 4, 2007 in the Hartville Care Center in Hartville, Missouri after a short illness. She was 84 years, and 10 days of age.
Juell grew up in the Oletha Community and joined the Church of the Brethren at Fairview at an early age.
She married Ramie Gass on December 6, 1941. One daughter, Janet, was born to this union. She and Ramie moved from their farm in Douglas County to Mountain Grove in 1955 where he pastored the Mountain Grove and Greenwood Church of the Brethren. They moved to Essex, Missouri in 1961 to pastor the Broadwater Church of the Brethren and then came back to Mountain Grove in 1963 to once again pastor in the Mountain Grove and Greenwood Church of the Brethren. In 1967 they moved to the Greenwood Community near Dunn, Missouri. After Ramie’s death in 1978, Juell worked in the Kabul Nursing Home and later took care of people in their homes. She also enjoyed making quilts and embroidery and hand work. Juell moved back to Mountain Grove in 1984 where she lived until her passing.
Besides her parents and her husband, Juell was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Gass, and by an infant brother, Murl Roy.
Juell is survived by two stepsons: Ellis H. Gass and his wife, Ruth, of Mountain Grove and Harold L. Gass and his wife, Lyllis, of Hartville, Missouri; five grandchildren: Sheila Gass and her fiancé, Michael Ciabocchi, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sheryl (Gass) Dossett and her husband, Brynel, of McPherson, Kansas, Gary Gass and his wife, Debbie, of Rolla, Missouri, Kathy (Gass) Bailey and her husband, Fred, of North Charleston, South Carolina, and Sonya (Gass) Hubbard and her husband, Tom, of Hartville, Missouri; two great-grandsons: McKiefer Lee Dossett and his wife, Ayda, of McPerson, Kansas and Nathan Hubbard of Hartville, Missouri; one great-granddaughter: Serci Kae Dossett of Topeka, Kansas; one great-great-grandson: Ryker Lee Dossett of McPerson, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her very much.
Funeral services for Juell Gass were held Monday, July 9, 11:00 Am in the Christian Brethren Fellowship Church with Rev. Jerry Schuster and Pastor Mike Benson officiating. Bonnie Peterson, Marie Froman, Mr. & Mrs. Rolland Norsworthy and The Christian Brethren Fellowship Choir served as singers and musicians. Song selections were “Learning To Lean,” “Beulah Land,” and “He Leadeth Me.” Pallbearers were Brynel Dossett, Gary Gass, Tom Hubbard, Richard Wolfe, Eddie Peterson, and Richard Peterson. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Hubbard, Harvey Neher, Bill Coble, Gene Myers, Wally Sowers, Robert Douglass, Les Burgin, and Ronnie Loper.
