Juanita Compton Rogers, daughter of the late James Drew and Sarah Bertie (Gates) Compton, was born on October 3, 1917 in Delaplaine, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully from this earth on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Magnolia Square Nursing Home in Springfield, Missouri. She was 98 years and 8 months of age.
Juanita grew up with her six brothers and sisters on a farm on Delaplaine, Arkansas. She taught school for a time in Arkansas. She married Walter Fred Rogers on July 2, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two sons were born to this union: Charles and Donald.
Juanita enjoyed working on their dairy and beef farm. She greatly enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, gardening, and working with her animals, especially her dogs. She spent time working as a telephone operator, working at Town and Country Super Market, and was also a bank teller at Security Bank for several years. Juanita enjoyed watching the Lakers and was an avid fan.
Besides her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on March 19, 2002; two brothers: James and William Compton; and three sisters: Geneva Bridges, Evelyn Thompson, and Hilda Galloway.
She is survived by her sons: Charles Rogers and Donald Rogers and his fianc, Billie Jacoby, all of Springfield, Missouri; one brother: Harold Compton of Medford, Oregon; two grandchildren: Geri Jacoby-Smith and Pam Jacoby; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers: Tracy Wise with Mercy Hospice and the staff at Magnolia Square in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Heart Association and Southwest Missouri Humane Society of Springfield, Mo. c/o the funeral home.
