Joyce Marion O’Dell, daughter of the late George and Cloe (Harlen) O’Dell, was born on September 10, 1920 in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, and passed away on January 2, 2014 in the HCR Manor Care in Springfield, Missouri, following a short illness. She was 93 years, 3 months, and 23 days of age.
Joyce grew up and attended school in Illinois. She, along with her family, lived in Caraway, Arkansas and moved to Missouri in 1942.
Joyce was employed by the Brown Shoe Company in Mtn. Grove and retired after working there for forty-two years.
She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor.
She enjoyed taking care of her loved ones and mothering anyone who was sick. She took great care of her parents for many years. She loved lending a helping hand whenever someone had a need and enjoyed visiting with her many friends and neighbors.
Joyce was a member of several rural churches around Mtn. Grove and later became a member of the Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church. She was active in church over the years and was a member of a community ladies club. In her younger years, she was active in the Democratic Party and attended many meetings.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald O’Dell, Sam O’Dell, Robert O’Dell, and Ralph O’Dell; and by two sisters: Doris Boyd and Martha Vermillion.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews that she truly loved. She will be missed by many friends, neighbors, and her extended family.
