Johnnie James Hurley, Sr., son of the late Hobart and Ressie (Wade) Hurley, was born April 5, 1933 in Manes, Missouri, and departed this life February 4, 2017 in Manes, Missouri. He was 83 years, 9 months, and 30 days of age.
Johnnie was born and raised on the Hurley family farm located on the banks of Beaver Creek in Wright County. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School with the class of 1950. He was united in marriage to Nadine Lee. Two children were born to this union.
Johnnie enlisted in the United States Army on June 9, 1953 and was honorably discharged on April 22, 1955. He was trained to fight in the Korean War which, fortunately, ended before he was called into action. He served an 18 month tour overseas in Germany.
Together, Johnnie and Nadine owned and operated a service station from 1957 to 1963 and a service station and grocery store from 1969 to 1971. Johnnie also worked in Fort Leonard Wood as a heavy equipment mechanic for 20 years. He also farmed and performed custom hay bailing and hauling throughout the years.
Johnnie was saved while in the Army in Fort Bliss, Texas. He joined the Manes Baptist Church and was later ordained as a deacon of the church. Johnnie was very faithful to attend church services and could be counted on to be there any time the doors were open. He remained faithful as long as his health permitted.
Besides his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rich Kildow, his brother, Gary Hurley, and two brothers-in-law, Bill Robertson and Darrell Lee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nadine Hurley, his son, Johnnie Hurley, Jr. and his wife, Anita, of Mountain Grove, his daughter, Lindiliee Kildow of Mountain Grove, one brother, Edwin Wade and his wife, Donna, of Norman, Oklahoma, three sisters, Nadine Hart and her husband, Leonard, of Mansfield, Missouri, Imogene Key and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Missouri, and Kay Robertson of Mountain Grove, one sister-in-law, Barbara Hurley of Mountain Grove, four grandchildren, Julie Ladendorf and her husband, Kurt, Sherrie Cooper and her husband, Brian, Jammie Hurley and his wife, Megan, and Kimberly Crabtree and her husband, Mike, six great-grandchildren, Ivie Shelton, Emily and Matthew Hurley, Sydnee and Katie Crabtree, and Kensi Ladendorf, and many other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation: Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
