Johnnie Benjamin Gilbert Duke

May 25, 1925 — June 13, 2009

Johnnie Benjamin Gilbert Duke, son of the late Andrew Gilbert and Edna (Climer) Duke, was born on May 25, 1925 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009 in the Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Missouri following a long illness. He was 84 years and 19 days of age.
Johnnie grew up and attended school in Mtn. Grove and moved to Marshall, Missouri in 1939, to Carrolton in 1974, to St. Joseph in 1974 and to Albany, Missouri in 1990 where he was living at the time of his passing.
His favorite hobbies were eating, talking to his friends and collecting angels and santas. Johnnie attended the Christian Church in Albany every Sunday as long as the weather and his health permitted. He loved spending time with his friends and with God.
He was very spiritual. He talked a great deal about Heaven and what it would be like when he got there. One of his favorite sayings was “When God made me, he made something special,” Jesus is my best friend in the whole world.”
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
He is survived by many friends and church family who will miss him very much.
Johnnie’s one dream was to get to Heaven one day and be with God. Everyone that knew him say this dream has come true.
Graveside services for Johnnie Duke were held Wednesday, June 17, 10:00 AM in the Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
