John Thomas Smith, son of Grant G. Smith Sr., and Oneeda (Stephens) Smith, was born on February 24, 1950 in Springfield, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, April 26, 2008 in the Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, following a short illness, at 58 years of age.
John grew up and attended school in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1968. He had lived in the Kansas City area for many years. He was employed in a cabinetry business and he also did wood working and cabinetry as a hobby.
He was an avid outdoorsman, especially when hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Grant Smith on April 4, 1996; and by a sister: Biddie Jean Carter.
He is survived by one son: Tommy Smith and his wife, Glendella, of Cabool, Missouri; two daughters: Elizabeth Martin and her husband, Scott, of Nixa, Missouri, and Katie Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; his companion: Gail Sosebee of Kingsville, Missouri; one brother: Grant “Bud” Smith Jr., and his wife, Becky, of Independence, Missouri; two sisters: Ann Altis of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Edna Dean and her husband, Larry, of Springfield, Missouri; ten grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him.
Graveside services for John T. Smith will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2:00 PM in the Eaton Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. Ray Bradley will serve as musician and singer. Song selections will be “Peace In The Valley” and “Sweet By And By.” Pallbearers are Dan Altis, Dave Altis, John Carter Jr., Carl Dean, James Dean, and Buck David. Burial will be in the Eaton Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 2:00 PM in the Eaton Cemetery in Ozark County, Missouri.
No Formal Visitation:
Friends may call after 10:00 AM, Tuesday in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
