John Earl Morgan Shannon, son of the late Fred and Edith (French) Shannon, was born June 8, 1930, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and passed away September 16, 2018, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 88 years, 3 months, and 8 days of age.
John grew up in Mountain Grove and attended Mountain Grove Schools. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1948. He married Lois Louise Wade on May 13, 1950, at Willow Springs Free Will Baptist Church, north of Mountain Grove. One son, James, was born to this union.
After graduation, John worked for Foxworthy Jewelry Store. On January 27, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was a teletype mechanic. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on August 27, 1953. In September of 1953, he opened Shannon Jewelry Store in Mountain Grove, working with his wife, Lois, and later with his son, James. He owned and operated the jewelry store over sixty years.
John was a lifelong member of Willow Springs Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He also enjoyed singing at church. John was a faithful member and attended as long as his health permitted.
He enjoyed wood working, yard work, playing checkers, and golf. Most importantly, he loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lois, who passed away on May 2, 2013.
John is survived by his son, James Shannon and his wife, Linda, of Mountain Grove, two granddaughters, Tonya Anderson and her husband, Scott, of Norwood, Missouri, and Tracy Zigmantas and her husband, Ben, of Summersville, Missouri, five great-grandchildren, Teira, Dakota, Skyla, Korben, and Nathan, two brothers, Richard Shannon and his wife, Doris, of Peoria, Illinois, and Dr. R. L. Shannon and his wife, Claudia, of Shawnee, Kansas, three sisters, Daisy Moore and her husband, Robert, of Caplinger Mills, Missouri, Mary Lou Bennett and her husband, Randy, of Topeka, Kansas, and Sharon Beilman and her husband, Paul, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and other relatives, church family, and friends who will miss him very much.
