John David Pointer was born on July 1, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas and passed quietly from this life on Friday, July 27, 2018 at his home on the farm near Mountain Grove, Missouri, following an extended illness. He was 63 years and 27 days old.
He was adopted as an infant by David and Lorraine Pointer of Great Bend, Kansas. The family moved to Mountain Grove in 1960. John was a talented musician and started playing the guitar at a young age. As a senior in high school he was chosen to play trumpet in McDonald’s All American Band. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1973 and briefly attended the University of Arkansas at Jonesboro and SMS in Springfield. In 1976 he came home to the farm and started building his cabin.
On January 5, 1980 he married Alice Scholz. Together they worked on the farm raising hogs and Angus cattle. John always had a nice garden and was a very good cook. He loved his Jeep and his dogs. He enjoyed listening to music and playing classical and jazz guitar and writing his own compositions.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Nellie Pointer and T. R. and Alta Hibbs, his parents, David and Lorraine Pointer, and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alice, a sister, Deane Waddell and husband, LaVaughn, of Houston, Texas, sister-in-law, Joyce Kerr and husband, Kent, of Gravette, Arkansas, nephew, Kevin Sartor of Columbia, Missouri, and niece, Shari Andrus of Mountain Grove, Missouri, three cousins, Ted Pegram of Kansas, Wayne Hibbs of Indiana, and Carolyn Hibbs of California.
