John A. Long, son of the late John Alexander and Angeline Arminda (Carder) Long, was born April 9, 1919 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life December 29, 2008 in Texas County, Missouri following a short illness. He was 89 years, 8 months and 20 days of age.
John was a long time Greene County resident who was united in marriage to Mary Lea Cline on May 16, 1942. Two daughters were born to this union. Mary Lea preceded him in death in 1984.
John served in the 96th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of WWII where he was awarded two bronze stars. Upon his return he worked for Kraft Foods in Mtn. Grove and Springfield until his retirement. John loved being outdoors especially when hunting and fishing.
Besides his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Broyles.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Beverly and Larry Fielden of Denver, Colorado and Mary Jo Long and Mike Bernhard of Afton, New York; three granddaughters: Jeanette Fielden, Jocelyn Parker and Jessica Long; two great-granddaughters: Allie and Chrissy Parker; one sister: Carrie Coffman of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; a niece: Dorethea Jacobson and husband Allen, who provided much care to him; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation:
Thursday, January 1, 2009 - 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Friends may call at their convenience in the funeral home after 12:00/Noon on Thursday.
