Joe Earl Hilt, son of the late Harold Woodrow and Olive Mae (Smith) Hilt, was born on September 30, 1936, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life on April 12, 2016, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 79 years, 6 months, and 13 days of age.
As a child, Joe attended the Sunny Slope School and later graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1955. He served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Spain.
After leaving the service Joe worked at the Martin-Marietta Missile Site in Wichita, Kansas. He later returned to Mountain Grove and worked for the Brown Shoe Company until his retirement.
Joe enjoyed farming, going to farm auctions, bowling, and golfing. He liked to volunteer at the senior center, play pool, cards, and dominoes. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law: Jim Jones, Gary Haeussler and Richard Courtney.
He is survived by one brother: Harold Dean Hilt of Long Beach, California; five sisters: Edna Marie Jones of Mountain Grove, Glenda Faye Courtney of Mountain Grove, Judy Ann Haeussler of Phoenix, Arizona, Billie Dawn Brown and her husband, Larry, of Troy, Missouri, and Sandra Kay Joyce and her husband, John, of OFallon, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends
Visitation: Monday, April 18, 2016, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
Graveside Memorial Service: Monday, April 18, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Lone Star Cemetery.
Burial: Lone Star Cemetery
Memorial Contributions: Lone Star Cemetery or Mountain Grove Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
