Jimmy R. Black

Jimmy Ray Black, son of the late Ralph and Marie (Moseley) Black, was born on August 12, 1941 in Wright County, Missouri. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2016 at his home near Hartville, Missouri. He was 74 years, 6 months, and 7 days of age.
As a child, Jim attended the Broyles School and later graduated from the Mountain Grove High School in 1959. He was united in marriage to Donna Ellis on October 28, 1960 in the home of Rev. Oliver Letterman. Three children were born to this union.
Jim worked for Mid-Am Creamery for approximately 17 years. He and Donna started their own dairy farm in 1975 and made that their family business until 2001. Jim then worked for the Wright County Road and Bridge Department for several years and continued to raise beef cattle until mid-January of 2016.
Jim loved to be outdoors whether it was farming, fixing fence, hunting, fishing, and grabbing or gigging suckers. His greatest joy in life was spending time making memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would take them for rides on the 4-wheeler and tractor. He also took each one of them fishing or deer hunting and had a special hut made for the experience that was equipped with a heater, not only to keep them warm, but more importantly, to roast marshmallows on. He also loved to share his love of Dr. Pepper with them and eventually the soda gained a new name, PaPa Juice.
Jim started attending the Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church in 1980 and was saved and baptized shortly thereafter. He was a long time member of the church and served as the treasurer for several years. Jims relationship with God was evident in the life he lived. He raised his family in church and made sure they knew serving the Lord was the most important thing they could do in life.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one son: Jamie Black, with whom he is now re-united in Heaven as they worship together at the feet of Jesus.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years: Donna Black, of the home; one son: Shaun Black and his wife, Tara, of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter: Tilli Daylong and her husband, Bill, of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law: Leslie Black of Ozark, Missouri; six grandchildren: Matthew Daylong and his wife, Alyssa, of Bentonville, Arkansas, Taylor Price and her husband, Keith, of Rogers, Arkansas, Morgan Black and Justin Black of Ozark, Missouri, and Tyler Black and Gracie Black of Bentonville, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren: Rylea Daylong, Bentley Daylong, and Payton Price; one brother: Russell Black of Crane, Missouri; a host of other relatives, church family, and friends who will miss him greatly.


Visitation: Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the Chapel.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel.

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery
