Jimmie John Thornhill, son of the late John and Cora (Rippee) Thornhill, was born March 31, 1923 in Graff, Missouri, and departed this life May 15, 2017 at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 94 years, 1 month, and 15 days of age.
Jimmie was raised in the Mountain Grove area and graduated from Mountain Grove High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He joined the railroad and retired after working there twenty years. Jimmie also had a dairy and beef farm for many years and then moved to town in 1990. He greatly enjoyed travelling and playing cards and games with his many friends.
Jimmie married Addie Mings on June 19, 1962. She passed away on May 3, 1985. He married Louise (Owens) Mings on October 4, 1986. Louise had three children whom Jimmie loved very much. They loved Jimmie very much in return. He was saved and baptized in 1987 and enjoyed attending First Free Will Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.
Besides his parents and his first wife, Jimmie was preceded in death by two daughters, Annette Mings and Beverly Helsley, seven brothers, Mordecai “Morty” Thornhill, George Thornhill, Sammie Thornhill, Elmer Lee Lawson, William “Bill” Lawson, Woodrow “Woody” Lawson, and Deto Lawson, four sisters, Viola “Ola” Woodley, Bircha “Birchie” O’Nell, Opal Higby, and Ethel Fletcher, and by one granddaughter, Dee Anna Keoner.
He is survived by his wife of their home, Louise Thornhill, one son, Gary Mings of Mountain Grove, one daughter, Carol Wagoner of San Diego, California, one sister, Lela Pio of Avon Park, Florida, one sister-in-law, Evelyn Lawson of Mountain Grove, five grandchildren, Shawna Helsley, Holly Helsley, Michika Linton and her husband, Josh, Sarah Mings, and Chris Snyder, eight great-grandchildren, Jake Keoner, Gavin Linton, Aubree Linton, Emma Linton, Jade Birt, Faith Birt, Kyerra Snyder, and Gunner Snyder, and many other family, friends, and church family who will greatly miss him.
