Jimmie Dale Shepherd, age 82, died at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri, with his family at his bedside, on Monday, December 13, 2010 from pancreatic cancer.
Jimmie was born on May 9, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, to James Madison and Icy Marie Richardson Shepherd. He graduated from high school in Birch Tree, Missouri in 1947. Jimmie served in the Navy on the USS Appalachian. He attained the rank of Seaman Second Class. He was a Radar Technician. On April 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ethel Loraine Searcy. One daughter, Evelyn Louise was born to this union. Jimmie worked in road construction with his father. He worked with the highway department in Mountain View and later became supervisor with the highway department in Mountain Grove, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.
During retirement, Jimmie and Ethel enjoyed traveling many parts of the United States and Canada, including Alaska, Virginia, Louisiana, and the Grand Canyon.
Jimmie was a loyal husband, faithful Christian, and a long time member of Calvary Temple Church located in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He served as a Sunday School teacher, elder, and board member.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Marie Shepherd; a daughter: Louise Prock; a granddaughter: Charlotte Prock; a grandson: Daniel Prock; and by a brother: Paul Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife: Ethel, of the home; grandson: Larry Shepherd and fiancé, Diane Chess; granddaughter: Stacy Brammer and husband Chris, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Brammer,Dale Shepherd,Zachary Brown, Nicole Brammer, Lydia Brammer, Destiny Brammer, Chris Brammer and Chase Brammer; two brothers: Charles Shepherd and his wife, Barbara, of Birch Tree, Missouri, and Robert Shepherd and his wife, Marcia, of Hampton, Virginia; and a sister-in-law: Naomi Shepherd of Raytown, Missouri.
Jimmie will be remembered for his love of family, dedication and service to his church and to God. Also, as a fair and honest supervisor to those with whom he worked. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we can look forward to being reunited with him when the Lord returns.
Special thanks to grandson Larry Shepherd for his dedication as main caregiver to his grandfather with help from granddaughter Stacy Brammer. Also, thanks to Three Rivers Hospice, to friends and relatives for their support, food and prayers. Thanks to all who helped with the service including pallbearers, musicians, Rev. Bill Morris, and Rev. John Chasteen.
