Jim Alvin Smith, son of Bryce D. and Frances (Koch) Smith, was born on November 27, 1944 in Sacramento, California and departed this life on April 19, 2008 at his mother’s residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri following a long illness at 63 years of age.
Jim grew up and attended school in Redding, California and graduated from Anderson Union High School in 1964. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968 after three years of service.
He moved to Missouri several years ago and was employed by Copeland’s in Ava for many years. He later worked for Ratterree and Barnes as a plumber and most recently worked as a custodian for Mtn. Grove Schools.
Jim had lived on west First Street in Mtn. Grove for the last eight years. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and making things. He was a handy-man who was very articulate and neat with every task set before him.
He was preceded in death by his father: Bryce Smith.
He is survived by his mother: Frances Smith of Mtn. Grove; two sons: Byron James Smith of Battleground, Washington, and Matthew Joseph Smith if Fortuna, California; one daughter: Gwendolyn Ann Smith of Australia; two brothers: Dana Smith of St. George, Utah and Dennis Smith of Mtn. Grove; one grandson; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services for Jim Smith will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Roger Flint officiating. Song selections will be “Old Rugged Cross,” “Where No One Stands Alone,” and “Peace In The Valley.” Pallbearers will be Tom Johns, earl Crofford, Edd Higby, Pat Benkert, Gary Kuster, and Greg Slinger. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.

Visitation:
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
