Jeffery Helms

Jeffery Calvin Helms, son of Sammy Joe Helms and Elaine Dorothy (Cook) Helms, was born December 17, 1963, in Aurora, Missouri, and departed this life November 25, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 59 years, 11 months, and 8 days.

He was united in marriage to Terri Lane and to this union, 2 children were born. He was preceded in death by his father, Sammy.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Elaine Helms, of Seymour; sons, Eli Helms and wife, Chandra, of Willard, Missouri, and Dalton Helms and wife, Mikayla, of Hartville, Missouri; daughter, Cierra Vasey and husband, Eddie, of Fordland, Missouri; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Aidan, Owen, Evie, Oliver, Asher, Emily, Henry, Paxton, Ruby, Barrett, and another baby girl on the way; brothers, Doug Helms and wife, Amanda, and Brian Helms, all of Seymour, Missouri, other relatives and many, many friends.

He was born in Aurora but lived his entire life in Seymour where he graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1982. Jeff worked hard to provide for his family. He worked at Hutchens’ Industries for several years and for Timken (formerly Carlisle Industries) for over 20 years from where he retired. He was a proud union member and served as union Vice President and board member for many years for USW Local 662L. He was also a member of Hazelwood Masonic Lodge # 459 A.F. & A.M. in Seymour.

In his spare time, he coached his kids when they played Little League, competed in men’s softball, lived and breathed hunting and fishing, goin’ “down South” to Glade Top Trail, took his kids creek hopping, cultivated his herb garden, spied out mushrooms, meticulously cared for his yard, looked for any excuse to have family and friends get together to BBQ, rocked out at concerts and he loved Christmas.

Jeff was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a caring neighbor and friend. We are truly grateful to have so many memories of special times shared together.
