Elizabeth Jean (Wakefield) Nickle, daughter of the late Jacob Amos and Orpha M. (Crawford) Wakefield, was born June 21, 1925, in Hartville, Missouri, and passed away January 26, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. She was 96 years, 7 months, and 5 days of age.
Jean was born and raised in Hartville, and she graduated from Hartville High School in 1944. Jean was united in marriage to Bill Nickle on November 27, 1946, after Bill returned from serving in the United States Navy. They moved to the Kansas City, area, where they lived for 25 years. Jean worked at the State Bank of Stanley for 16 years. After she and Bill retired, they moved back to Hartville, Missouri, in 1982, where they spent their early retirement years, and then moved to Springfield in 1988.
Jean was saved and baptized, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hartville. Jean loved to read in her spare time, and she greatly enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. She liked to grow a big garden and enjoyed canning her vegetables. She also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Nickle; one daughter, Karen Nickle; one sister, Thelma Cox; and five brothers, Charlie, Earl, Paul, Ausber, and Lee Wakefield.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Nickle of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Penny Nickle of Springfield, Missouri; and many nephews, nieces, and friends who will miss her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wynn Cemetery or the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.
