Jarrel Wayne Saladin, son of the late Rev. Owen and Edna (Fletcher) Saladin, was born March 9, 1937, in Norwood, Missouri, and departed this life April 10, 2020, in Monett, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 83 years, 1 month, and 1 day of age.
Jarrel grew up in the Owens community and graduated high school with the Mountain Grove class of 1955. After graduating high school, Jarrel enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. He was also the undefeated boxing champion of his ship, the USS Irwin, and won four tournaments.
Jarrel was a hard worker who enjoyed carpentry until his health no longer permitted. He also enjoyed nice cars. He loved spending time with family and friends reminiscing about the old times and memories made. He was proud of his grandchildren and loved to tell others about each of them and their accomplishments.
Jarrel was saved and baptized at a young age and had recently rededicated his life to the Lord.
Jarrel is survived by one son, Dr. Mark Saladin and wife, Dr. Sarah Saladin, of Carthage, Missouri, three grandchildren, Amanda (Saladin) Evans and husband, David, of Dallas, Texas, Christopher Saladin of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Michael Saladin of Mountain Home, Arkansas, long time companion, Karen Gilbert and her daughter, Susie Gilbert, of Springfield, Missouri, two sisters, Linda Ussery and husband, Glen, of Dittmer, Missouri, and Karen Moore and husband, Gary, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one niece and several nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
