Janie Cooley Hicks

October 13, 1920 — July 28, 2007

Lula Jane “Janie” Hicks, daughter of the late William Frederick and Elsie Mable (Doane) Cooley, was born October 13, 1920 in Dewey, Oklahoma and passed away July 28, 2007 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri after a long illness. She was 86 years, 9 months, and 15 days of age.
Janie grew up in Douglas County where she also met and married Elmer Hicks. They were married November 2, 1938. Six children were born to this union.
Janie enjoyed cooking, gardening, and taking care of her family. She was a kind and gentle woman who will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; two sons: Danny Hicks and Lonnie Hicks; two daughters: Carroll Green, and Sandy Soden; four brothers: Orville Cooley, Lee Cooley, Frederick Cooley, Landon Cooley; and by four sisters: Hazel Schumann, Ida Cooley, Joan McGinnis, and Janice Wade.
Janie is survived by two daughters: Connie Hicks of Mountain Grove, and Sharroll Anderson of Helena, Montana; one sister: Frances Southerland of Mountain Grove; and by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Janie Hicks were held Monday, July 30, 2:00 PM in the New Hope Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Turner officiating. Song selections were “Angel Band,” “Peace In The Valley,” and “I’ll Fly Away.” Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn.
