James Dale Landis, son of the late James and Cleta (Scott) Landis, was born October 25, 1939, in Mountain View, Missouri, and passed away July 23, 2024, at his residence in Seymour, Missouri. He was 84 years, 8 months, and 29 days of age.
As a child, James grew up in Mountain View, Fair Grove, and Strafford, Missouri. Following in his father’s footsteps, who served in WW I, James joined the United States Army and proudly served his country.
James worked for Dayco for 24 years and then went to work for Webster County Road Department. He truly enjoyed working for the road department and worked there until he retired.
On June 10, 1977, James was united in marriage to Mary Ann Snelson. James loved his family very much and he loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
James was an avid woodworker and built many pieces, but one of his favorite projects was the pulpit he built for his church. He was a faithful member of the Seymour Freewill Baptist Church, and served the church anyway he could. The church was very important to him, and he loved his church family.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by one son, Andy Landis; one granddaughter, Jessica Landis; two brothers, Kirk Kirkpatrick and Jerry Landis; and one sister, Marilyn Dow.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Landis, of the home in Seymour; two sons, David Landis and his wife, Dawn, of Lincoln, Missouri, and Phillip Landis of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one daughter, Dee Landis of Nixa, Missouri; one sister, Ellen Spickler of Republic, Missouri; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Whitney, Kevin and Erica, VJ and Tanya, Casey, Zachery, Jake, Alexis and Jesse, and Ian; 14 great- grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; extra son, Danny Cottengim and his family; his special friend, Gene Terry; his church family and other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
