James R. Jeffreys was born on August 28, 1938, in Rochelle, Texas, to his parents Jim B. and Linnie Mae (Mathews) Jeffreys. Jim passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
Jim and his family moved to Colorado when he was nine years old. He graduated high school in Las Animas, Colorado. Jim served in the Marine Reserves for six years beginning in 1955. He also attended Otero Junior College for two years and began working in 1959 for Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman, retiring in 1972. In 1962 he began farming near Cheraw, Colorado, and in 1976 he and his family were awarded the Colorado FMHA Farm Family of the Year.
Jim attended Tulsa Technical College Welding School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then moved to Mansfield, Missouri, and worked as a welding specialist at Mansfield Lime Quarry. Jim married Norma (Wallin) Holmes in 1985. He then started a masonry construction and repair company building chimneys and other brickwork in the Springfield, Missouri, area. He began working for the US Postal Service in 1987 retiring in 2005. Jim was active in the Mansfield Assembly of God Church in Mansfield, Missouri, for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Linnie Mae Jeffreys, and his brother, Harold Jeffreys of Colorado.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Norma Jeffreys, son, Vann Jeffreys of California, daughter, Debbie (Dan) Haberman of Colorado, stepson, Randy (Kim) Holmes of Texas, stepson, Gary (Pam) Holmes of Texas, and his sister, Marvell Griffy of Colorado. He is also survived by granddaughter, Renee (Scott) Bond of Colorado, grandson, Mark (Michelle) Haberman of Colorado, great grandchildren, Hunter and Taylor Bond of Colorado, Lily Haberman of Florida, and Teagan Haberman of Colorado. He will be missed by all of those who loved him.
