James 'Glen' Mitchell

September 28, 1956 — February 8, 2010

James “Glen” Mitchell, son of the late Carlos Fay and Dorothy (Lucas) Mitchell, was born on September 28, 1956 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on February 8, 2010 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 53 years, 4 months and 10 days of age.
Glen grew up in Wright County and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1974. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1975 – 1977. He was united in marriage to Verna McGowen in July of 1977. Five daughters were born to this union.
Glen was employed with Brown Shoe Company in Mountain Grove for many years until he became disabled. Glen enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed working on his truck and boat and spending time with his family.
He was a caring and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Johnnie, Freddie, Roy, Gary, Gaylord, and Terry Mitchell; two sisters: Mary Charpentier and Jackie Mitchell.
He is survived by his five daughters: Melissa Parsons of Mtn. Grove, Teresa Wilson, Jessica Mitchell and Amber Palmer, all of Mansfield, Missouri, and Heather Vandiver of Dora, Missouri; two brothers: Darrell Mitchell and his wife, Nadine, of Blue Springs, Missouri and Robert Mitchell and his wife, Sonja, of Norwood, Missouri; one sister: Barbara Burdick and her husband, Roy, Hartville, Missouri; three step-children: Melanie and Cole Riley and Morgan Williams; fourteen grandchildren; his best friend: John Griffin of Mansfield, Missouri; a close and caring friend: Karen Riley; several nieces; nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation:
Friday, February 12th - 2:00 - 4:00 PM in the Chapel.
Service:
4:00 PM in the Funeral Home.
Burial: (at a later date)
