James H. Freeman, son of the late Samuel L. and Velda (Clinton) Freeman, was born May 18, 1927, at Vera Cruz, near Ava, Missouri, and passed away March 5, 2021, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 93 years, 9 months, and 18 days of age. James was the last living of his generation of 54 grandchildren of Union Civil War veteran, Henry Clay and Ann Moore Freeman.
James married Gleenis McCallister on February 22, 1947, and four children were born to this union. They lived in Aurora, Illinois, for fifty years and James worked as a carpenter there and was a member of the carpenters’ union. They resided in Illinois until Gleenis passed away in 1999. Shortly after, he married Faye Cooksey on July 9, 1999, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. James and Faye were acquaintances from their teenage days in Sanger, California. James was a member of the Church of Christ.
James loved to live in the country and to have animals. He broke horses growing up, and he had horses off and on through most of his life. James and Faye enjoyed going to garage sales and going bargain hunting. James was a hard worker, took pride in his work, and always enjoyed working throughout his life.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gleenis Freeman, one son-in-law, Denny Schoenwolf, one granddaughter, Laura Schoenwolf, three brothers, Henry Freeman, Chester Freeman, and Lester Freeman, seven sisters, Annie Mae Freeman, Catherine Johnson, Tildy Beebe, Cora Linder, Pearl Page, Joann Adams, and Frieda McConnell.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Freeman, three sons, Ron Freeman and his wife, Pat, Russell Freeman and his wife, Sandy, and James Michael Freeman and his wife, Joann, one daughter, Wanda Schoenwolf, fourteen grandchildren, Brad Freeman, Brian Freeman, Scott Freeman, Mark Freeman, Kevin Freeman, John Freeman, Tony Freeman, Andy Freeman, Greg Freeman, Adam Schoenwolf, Robert Freeman, Karen Freeman, and Stephanie Schoenwolf, ten great-grandchildren, and many other extended family and friends who will miss him.
