Ivan E. “Buck” Forrest, son of the late Thomas and Nettie (King) Forrest, was born April 28, 1928 and passed away March 20, 2010 at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was 81 years, 11 months, and 22 days of age.
Buck grew up in Norwood and attended country schools in the Norwood area. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1949. He reenlisted in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1952.
He married Delta Snavely on October 3, 1946. Five children were born to this union. They moved to Nebraska in 1952 and then moved back to Missouri in 1962 and bought Delta’s family farm from her parents. He raised cattle and hogs and did some trucking. He leased his truck to Mayflower Moving Company in 1964 and drove all over the United States for 5 years. He and his wife then opened Forrest Meat Processing in 1969 in Norwood and operated it together for 21 years. In 1990, they sold the business to their son and daughter-in-law, Rick and June.
Buck and Delta retired to their farm and continued raising cattle with their son, Lee.
He also served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Mansfield for over 25 years.
Buck loved to fish. They bought a pontoon several years ago and enjoyed many days out on the lake.
Besides his parents, Buck was preceded in death by one brother: Tip “Dockie” Forrest; and by one grandson: Richard Forrest.
Buck is survived by his loving wife of their home, Delta; three sons: Lee Forrest and his wife, Sue, and Rick Forrest and his wife, June, all of Norwood, Missouri, and Alan Forrest and his wife, Jennifer, of Forsyth, Missouri; two daughters: Janet Grimm and her husband, Garry, of Hill City, South Dakota, and Karen Kemper and her husband, Larry, of Mountain Grove; eleven grandchildren: Darren Dake, Brandon Dake, April Carmon, Ivan Forrest, Errin Kemper, Michael Kemper, Miranda Hooker, Shane Forrest, Jessica Woody, Austin Forrest, and Allison Forrest; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: June Bradshaw, Marion Marcy, Boots Gerhardt, and Jacki Siemens; two brothers: Tommy Forrest and John Moody; one uncle: Bill King; and a host of other relatives, neighbors, and friends who will all miss him.
He felt his family was his greatest accomplishment and he loved them very much.
