As a young man, he worked the family farm until March 15, 1941, at which time he was called into service for our nation. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He served his country in the Battle of the Bulge through difficult conditions for six weeks of fighting until the allies won. On November 20, 1945 he was honorably discharged from the service and returned to the family farm. He continued to farm throughout the years until his death.
On June 29, 1950, Ival was united in marriage to Pansy Pearl Bowlin in Harrison, Arkansas. Four daughters were born to this union; Ilene, Erlene, Merlene and Kathy. Ival and Pansy had sixty-three years together.
