Imogene Mae Henson, daughter of the late Mose and Edna (Claxton) Gray, was born on May 11, 1931 in Macomb, Missouri, and departed this life on February 5, 2014, following a long illness, in Kansas City, Missouri, at 82 years of age.
Imogene grew up and attended school in the Macomb area. She was united in marriage to Elmer James Henson on February 6, 1952. They made their home in Douglas and Wright Counties in Missouri for many years. Imogene lived in Mtn. Grove for several years, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri when her health started failing to be near her daughter and family.
Imogene was a loving and caring person. She was known as a wonderful cook, and especially liked baking pies. As long as she was able, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, making beautiful quilts and writing poems. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Imogene accepted Christ at a young age and she loved her Lord very much. She and Elmer were longtime members of the Coldspring Free Will Baptist Church in Douglas County, where they enjoyed attending services over the years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Henson on July 25, 1989; two infant daughters; one great-grandson; one sister: Opal Efen Williams; and by five brothers: Luther Gray, Howard Gray, Roy Gray, Ernie Gray and Cecil Gray.
She is survived by her daughter: Wanda Brooks and her husband, John, of Kansas City, Missouri; her three granddaughters: Melanie Chapman and Emily Chapman, both of Kansas City, Missouri, and Heather Dennis of Mansfield, Missouri; one great-grandson: Connor Choate; her longtime special friend and caregiver: Robert Butcher; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
