Hurley James Estes, son of the late Everette Wayne and Fannie J. (Brown) Estes, was born on September 17, 1933 in Vanzant, Missouri, and passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in the Abilene Medical center in Abilene, Texas, from injuries sustained in a farming accident, at 73 years of age.
Hurley grew up in the Ozark Mountains surrounding Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Following graduation from Mtn. Grove High School he joined the United States Army. After his military service, Hurley joined his brother, Doc, working for Hood Construction Company. They installed natural gas pipe lines from Idaho to California.
While working in Idaho, he was united in marriage to Nyla Hegstrom. Two daughters were born to this union. They later divorced and Hurley moved to southern California. He later met and married Geraldine Zakarian. She preceded him in death in 2004.
He retired in 1998 from ARB Welding and Construction.
Hurley enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He had lived the last five years in Cross Plains, Texas where he became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Besides his parents and his second wife, he was preceded in death by one brother: Hubert; and by a sister: Lorene Coffman.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law: Annie and Darin Christensen of Magna, Utah, and Carla and Kent Payne of Yorktown, Virginia; younger sister: Tina and Alan Summers, of Aberdeen, Idaho; his grandchildren: Cameron, Joshua, Hailey, Colter, Jacob, Dakota, Christian, Cara, Elizabeth, Conner, and Sidney; one brother: Don Estes and his wife, Ella, of the State of California; two sisters: Alline Nielson of the State of Missouri and Lillian Rico of the State of Arkansas; special friends: D.T. Crockett and his wife, Mary, of Abilene, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Viewing for Mr. Estes will be held Wednesday, August 1, 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2007, 12:00 noon in the Vanzant Cemetery in Douglas County under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn.
