Herbert Dean Calhoun, son of the late Alva and Dora Lou (Johnson) Calhoun, was born on October 26, 1944, in Mansfield, Missouri, and departed this life on September 1, 2015, at his home in Mansfield, Missouri. He was 70 years, 10 months, and 7 days of age.
Dean was born and raised in Mansfield, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Zella Faye Holloway on December 16, 1963. Six daughters were born to this union: Cindy, Brenda, Alice, Alta, Sharon, and Deana.
Dean was an over the road truck driver his entire life. His most recent job was working for Grishams out of Norwood. He was well known by his family and friends for his love of cooking. Dean also loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife: Zella Faye in 2008; one daughter: Deana Sprague; one brother: Lendon Calhoun; one grandchild: Anna Calhoun; and one great-grandchild: Mason Rhodes.
He is survived by his companion: Betty Mullanack of the home in Mansfield, Missouri; five daughters: Cindy Calhoun and her fiance, Carl Risner, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Brenda Maggard and her husband, Bill, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Alice Wallace and her husband, Ricky, of Mansfield, Missouri, Alta Billups and her husband, Marion, of Brushy Knob, Missouri, and Sharon Allmon and her husband, Steve, of Protem, Missouri; five brothers: Sherman Calhoun of Mansfield, Missouri, Ervan Calhoun of Hartville, Missouri, Gary Calhoun of Springfield, Missouri, Max Calhoun and his wife, Cathy, of Monett, Missouri, and Vernon Calhoun and his wife, Teresa, of Cabool, Missouri; one sister: Alta Scholfield and her husband, Johnny, of Thornfield, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Memorial Service: Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Mansfield Lions Club.
Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Norwood, Missouri.
A memorial has been established in his name, contributions may be made at the funeral home.
