Helen Marie Maxvill, daughter of the late William Ira “W.I.” and Artie (Ragsdale) Robertson, was born on July 3, 1921 in Bendavis, Missouri, and departed this life on October 2, 2012 in the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, following a short illness. She was 91 years, 2 months, and 29 days of age.
Helen grew up in Texas County and graduated from Houston High School in Houston, Missouri in 1941. She was united in marriage to Lester Ival Maxvill on June 21, 1941 in Huggins, Missouri. Four children were born to this union. Over the years, they enjoyed making large vegetable gardens on their farm where they raised their family. Mr. Maxvill passed away on March 24, 1990.
Helen was a member of the Women’s Progressive Farmer’s Association (WPFA) for many years and she was also a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She enjoyed quilting and started oil painting in her 80’s, which she truly loved.
Helen was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Dunn, Missouri. She was an extremely faithful Christian over the years, and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many of those years. She loved her church family very much. They looked after her and someone was always visiting with her or taking her to lunch after church.
Helen made her home in Cabool, Missouri for the past twenty-five years, first at Pineview Heights and then Landmark Villa.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Lyla Jean; one brother: Earl Robertson; two sisters: Bernice Sexton and Faye Blackmon; a daughter-in-law: Vivian Maxvill; and by a granddaughter: Sandy Maxvill.
She is survived by two sons: Louie Maxvill and Merlin Maxvill and his wife, Ann, all of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Linda Tarpley and her husband, Rennie, of Conway, Arkansas; seven brothers: Orville “Shorty” Robertson and his wife, Virginia, Dale Robertson, Don Robertson, Francis Robertson and his wife, Fern, all of Mtn. Grove, Norman Robertson and his wife, Sue, and Robert Robertson and his wife, Teresa, all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dean Robertson and his wife, Sharon, of Springfield, Missouri; one sister: Shirley Goforth and her husband, Warren, of St. Robert, Missouri; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her dear friends from Abundant Life Church; and a host of other relatives and friends.
