Hazel M. King

November 5, 1934 — February 19, 2007

Hazel M. Holt-King, daughter of the late Lloyd Washington and Floy Maye Brown, was born on November 5, 1934 in a log cabin in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life on Monday, February 19, 2007 in Magnolia Square Nursing Center in Springfield, Missouri, following an extended illness. She was 72 years, 3 months, and 14 days of age.
Hazel grew up and attended school in Wright County and was united in married to Leonard Holt on December 25, 1954. They were married for thirty-four years. They made their home in Alaska for eight years, where Hazel was in the restaurant business and also in Real Estate Investing. They returned to Missouri in 1962. Leonard passed away on January 9, 1988. She married Ben King in August of 1989, and they were married for thirteen years. Ben passed away on November 6, 2002.
Hazel worked for the Ben Franklin Store and Barber Funeral Home in Mtn. Grove for several years. She later worked at Wal-Mart in Mtn. Grove for seventeen years.
Hazel had many enjoyments in her life. She enjoyed gardening, and tending to her farm and animals. As busy as she was with her farming, she always found time to help her family, friends, and neighbors.
Hazel was loved by many people and will be truly missed. She was blessed and thankful for her many friends.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and was baptized in June of 1953. She became a member of the Rebecca Lodge in 1962 and was a member forty-three years.
Besides her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant brother: Johnnie Brown.
She is survived by two brothers: Eugene Brown of St. Louis, Missouri and Robert Brown of Springfield, Missouri; one sister: Beulah Dana of Wichita, Kansas; one step-son: Leonard D. Holt and his wife, Barbara of Fort Angeles, Washington; five step-daughters: Gale Berger and her husband, Ken of Los Angeles, California, Jane Riwin of Fort Angeles, Washington, Sharon Moore, Terry Slayback and her husband, Joe, and Becky Byrd and her husband, Malcolm, all of the State of Indiana; eight step-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was also survived by her beloved pets: Tip, Sarah, Twink, and Cha-Cha.


Funeral Services:
Friday, February 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home chapel.
Visitation:
Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Interment:
Hillcrest Cemetery
