Harold Hobert Friend, son of the late Mont and Ina (Gaddis) Friend, was born April 7, 1933 in Dawson, Missouri and passed away August 17, 2012 at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri. He was 79 years, 4 months, and 10 days of age.
After graduation from Mountain Grove High School, Harold then joined the Navy and became a Corpsman. Later he moved to Rawlins, Wyoming to work on the railroad. Harold became involved with gospel music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with various groups such as The Dixie Echos and the Dwayne Friend Crusades. He also played in Branson with Bob O Links, The Foggy River Boys, and The Baldknobbers. Then he went back to work for the railroad and retired as an engineer.
Harold married Dixie McMurtrey in 1954. He attended Crossroads of Faith Church. He loved to hunt for deer and elk. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, in 1971; two daughters: Tina and Lori Friend; three brothers: Chelmer, Don, and Gene; and by one sister: Melba Hudson.
He is survived by one son: Rick Friend and his wife, Linda, of Mountain Grove; one daughter: Teresa Colby and her husband, Roger, of Osceola, Missouri; five grandchildren: Ashley Malone, Zach Colby, Hallie Friend, Zoie Colby, and Ali Colby; five brothers: Derrel Friend and his wife, Betty, of Mountain Grove, Rex Friend and his wife, Bonnie, of Springfield, Missouri, Bythel Friend and his wife, Goldie, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Dwayne Friend of Monett, Missouri, and Terry Friend and his wife, Joyce, of Mountain Grove, and many other friends, family, and church family who will greatly miss him.

Monday, August 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Crossroads of Faith Church, north of Mountain Grove.
