Gladys Pauline Baney

Gladys Pauline Baney, daughter of the late Fred and Lena (Franklin) Melton, was born on October 11, 1918 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and went home to Heaven on February 19, 2008. She was 89 years, 4 months, and 8 days of age.
In a family of eleven children, Gladys was the oldest of the sisters with two older brothers.
She attended Fowler and Gravel Point country schools but in order to graduate from the 12th grade, she along with two of her brothers, had to move in with different relatives across the country. She was graduated Valedictorian from Elmo Schools in north Missouri the same year her two brothers graduated, one in Houston, Missouri and the other in Houston, Texas.
Gladys married the love of her life, Lawrence Baney, on November 14, 1940. Three children were born to this union.
Gladys spent her life caring for her family and her home. She enjoyed spending time outside, working alongside her husband, as much as she enjoyed working in her home. She was an excellent cook and shared many of her cooking secrets with her daughter and granddaughters. Gladys was always worried about everyone else and often times did without so her family would have what they needed.
Gladys accepted the Lord at a young age and was a long time member of the Assembly of God Church in Mountain Grove. Later in life, she enjoyed going to Benny Hinn Crusades and even had the privilege of working at one of them. She was anxiously awaiting the return of her Lord and spoke of it often with family members.
Gladys was one of those rare women who knew how to be a true “lady” and a hard worker at the same time. She will be truly missed by those that knew and loved her. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Gladys is survived by two sons: Ron Baney and his wife, Ruby, of Springfield, Missouri and Larry Baney of Mountain Grove; one daughter: Norma Cole and her husband, Marlynn, of Strafford, Missouri; eleven grandchildren: Rhonda, Larry, Leasa, Don, Tim, Doug, Colleen, Sara, Delynne, Jennifer, and Mark; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gene Melton and his wife, Sue, of Valley, Alabama, Glen Melton and his wife, Christine, of Clayton, Indiana; five sisters: Ernestine McKinney of Cabool, Missouri, Maxine Witt and her husband, Peter, of Mountain Grove, Ruth Freeman and her husband, Lloyd, of Mountain Grove, Madge Freeman and her husband, Leonard, of Mountain Grove, and Wanda Prock of Danville, Indiana; and one sister-in-law; Mildred Melton.
Funeral services for Gladys Baney were held Friday, February 22, 2008, 2:00 Pm in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Larry Baney officiating. J.C. & Jeannie Spurgeon sang “What A Friend,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Don Spurgeon, Tim Spurgeon, Doug Baney, Mark Baney, Larry Baney and Zach Hurtt. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Sinning, Francis Robertson, Ted Forbes, Gene Pool, Jimmy Coats, Willie Brown, David Virtue, Dick Wolfe, Nathan Roth, Roger Nelson, Vernon Long, Gene McGowan, Earl Carder, Richard Crumrine, Clyde Maners, Willard McCarty, Stan Flageolle, Luke Flageolle, Jamie McGowan, and Michael Williams. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.

Visitation:
Friday, February 22, 1:00 pm - 2:00 Pm before the service in the chapel.

Hillcrest Cemetery
