Carlos Eugene “Gene” Lathrom, son of the late Harvey and Ada Lathrom (Carder), was born on February 7, 1935, in Green Mountain, Missouri, and departed this life on January 1, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri. He was 88 years, 10 months, and 25 days of age.
Gene worked as a dairy farmer, but also worked for Brown Shoe Company for many years. He married Hazel Marie Dennis on March 23, 1957, in Wright County. One son, Grant, was born to this union.
Gene enjoyed many outdoor activities like hunting and fishing. One of his favorite activities in life was rabbit hunting, as he just loved having his beagle hounds run rabbits. He was also a fan of baseball and Gene loved his St. Louis Cardinals. Gene was saved and faithfully attended Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. A quote from Gene was, “The Bible has some awfully big words in it, but I sure like reading it.”
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Hazel Marie Lathrom; three brothers, Jack, Stanley, and Larry Lathrom; three sisters, Vynita Craig, Beverley Ann Lathrom, and Mabel Moore.
Gene is survived by his son, Grant Lathrom; three brothers, Dean Lathrom, Jerry Lathrom and his wife, Lola, and Ronnie Lathrom and his wife, Betty; two sisters, Evelyn Coble and Teresa Murr and her husband, Danny; ten grandchildren, Levi Knight and his wife, Brittany, Kaleb, Nikolas, Josh, Asher, Silas, Grace, Sydney, Mercy, and Verity Lathrom; and many other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
