Garnet Wayne Hopper, son of the late Garnet T. and Zella (Goodman) Hopper, was born on May 23, 1935, in Denlow, Missouri and departed this life on May 2, 2014 at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 10 days.
Wayne was raised and attended elementary school in the Denlow area and was a graduate of the Mountain Grove High School. After graduation, Wayne went to Iowa to work for a couple of years. Upon returning, he went to work for Tobin Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield, Missouri. He worked with the love of his life, Ruby (Shelton) Hopper and the two were united in marriage on July 13, 1963. Wayne eventually left the shoe factory to work in construction and concrete. He made many friends along the way.
Wayne was very family oriented and enjoyed life. He loved singing and telling stories. He was happiest when he could be outside working in his garden. He enjoyed taking Wednesday trips to the Ava barbershop, where sometimes he joined in the singing and sometimes he just listened. He enjoyed fish frys and cookouts with friends and family.
Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by four sisters: Velma, Bonnie, Doris, and Carol; four brothers: Wib, Jerry, Darrell, and Marlin; and a granddaughter: Alicia Davis.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years: Ruby Hopper, of the home; a daughter: Elizabeth Shelton and husband, Kenny, of Snyder, Texas; a son: Terry Hopper and wife, Regina, of Norwood, Missouri; five grandchildren: Billy Souder, Nathan Souder, Heather Cutbirth, Heidi Thornton, and Coby Hopper; ten Great-Grandchildren; three sisters: Inez Stevens, Linda Coonts, Brenda Todd; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation: Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Burial: Denlow Cemetery Memorial Contributions: Denlow Cemetery or St. Judes Childrens Hospital c/o the funeral home.
