Galen Roy Neher, son of the late Wade and Pearl (Harris) Neher, was born on July 23, 1924 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and departed this life on August 17, 2010 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove following a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Galen grew up in Mtn. Grove and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1942. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Angilee Moore on May 6, 1945. Two children were born to this union.
After graduation, he worked for Richards Brothers and in 1944 he was employed in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1946, he and Angilee returned to Mtn. Grove and purchased forty acres that was previously owned by his grandfather. He worked in dairy production and also for Richards Brothers. Later they sold that farm and bought their present farm, seven miles northwest of Mtn. Grove. In 1954, he became the manager of Richards Brothers and worked in that capacity for over thirty years.
Galen served on the Farm Bureau Board and also on the Mtn. Grove School Board for fourteen years.
He and Angilee were faithful and longtime members of the Mountain Valley Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, clerk, and treasurer. He loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church with his family.
Galen will be remembered by his family as a loving, devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He truly loved having his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and young people in his home. He wanted them to be faithful to God.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Marvin and Elmer; and by a sister: Evelyn.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years: Angilee Neher of their home; his son: Stan Neher and his wife, Jewel, of Kansas City, Missouri; his daughter: Karen Virtue and her husband, Dan, of Rogersville, Missouri; proud grandfather of: Michelle Barnhart, Erin Berkland, Kristin Ebberts and Justin Virtue; great-grandfather of: Riley, David and Mikala; one brother: Harvey Neher and his wife, Willetta,; one sister: Lorene Neher, all of Mtn. Grove; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives, friends, and church family who will dearly miss him.

Thursday, August 19th, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel, 315 North Main, Mtn. Grove.
