Floyd Jefferson Gamby

January 13, 1923 — October 17, 2014

Floyd Jefferson Gamby, son of the late Paul and Isabell (OBrien) Gamby, was born on January 13, 1923 in New Richmond, Michigan and departed this life on October 17, 2014 at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 91 years, 9 months, and 4 days of age.

Floyd grew up near New Richmond, Michigan. He fought in WWII, receiving his Purple Heart in Germany. After returning from the war, Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Ludwig, on May 29, 1946 in Fennville, Michigan. Four children were born to this union: Rick, Ronnie, Kathy and Shelia.

In 1971, Floyd and Lorraine moved to a farm in Missouri. His family was very important to him. Every year he took them on a vacation. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and water skiing with the children when they were young. He especially loved being outdoors.

Floyd drove a truck for over 30 years. He and Lorraine took the grandchildren all over the United States in the summertime. These were very special times for them and their grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, in 1996; two sons: Rick Gamby and Ronnie Gamby; one brother: Ed Gamby; and one sister: Marie Banghart.

Floyd is survived by two daughters: Kathy Berkheimer of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Shelia Lane and husband, Joe, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one brother: Frank Gamby; eight grandchildren: Michael Berkheimer, Brandie Spanton and husband, Kenny, and Amber Dawn Rouse and husband, Curtis, Charolette Vazquez and husband, Ricardo, of California, Laura Garcia and husband, Fernando of California, Ashley Gamby of California, Angela Gamby of California, and Justin Gamby of California; Ten great-grandchildren: Breanna, Michael, Gatlin, Adilynn, Trae, Ty, Casey, Erik, Clarissa, and Danica.


Visitation: Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Graveside Funeral Service: Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery.
