Floyd B. Johnson

Floyd B. Johnson, son of the late Willie and Martha (Honeysuckle) Johnson, was born on the family farm in Asher, Oklahoma on May 14, 1921. He passed away on August 26, 2008 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri following a long illness. He was 87 years, 3 months and 12 days of age.
Floyd grew up in Oklahoma and was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dottie” Herrin on October 1, 1941 in Purcell, Oklahoma. One daughter, Elaine, was born to this union. While living in Purcell, Floyd served in the C.C. Camp. They traveled to San Francisco, California for their honeymoon. They decided to stay in California where they made their home for fifty-nine years.
Floyd worked in the shipyard in Oakland before joining the United States Navy. He served his country during World War II and following his honorable discharge he was employed as an auto-body and fender repairman. He later went on to painting commercial and residential properties and managed a painting business for thirty years. Before retiring, he spent the last ten years as the superintendent of the painting department at Kaiser Hospitals of the San Francisco northern bay area.
He was a member of the Bay Area Painter’s Union Local #560 for fifty years. He retired from his various jobs after fifty-seven years.
Floyd and Dottie had a great love for children and helped with raising several over the years.
Floyd enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting. In his younger adult years, he coon hunted and also hunted big game such as bear, bobcat, and mountain lions in northern California and southern Oregon. He was called many times by officials when big game would move down close to a town or home. He would load his dogs and off he would go. Later in life he enjoyed hunting quail and pheasant. Most of all he enjoyed watching his dogs work.
He also loved showing his Tennessee walking horses. He liked working in his large vegetable garden each year and canning his vegetables and fruit from his fruit trees. He liked Country and Blue Grass music and attending the Blue Grass festivals while living in California.
Floyd and Dottie moved to the Mtn. Grove area to be near their daughter in May of 2000 when his health stated failing.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Dorothy “Granny,” “Dottie” Johnson in August 13, 2006; one brother: Bud Johnson; and by one sister: Nina (Johnson) Conn.
He is survived by his daughter: Elaine Richardson of Mtn. Grove; one grandson: Jimmy Richardson and his wife, Sara, and son, Wyatt, all of Mtn. Grove; one granddaughter: Cindy (Richardson) Ross and her husband, Kenny, and their children, T.J. and Steven, all of Napa, California; a sister: Ina (Johnson) Elliott of San Pablo, California; several nieces; nephews; and a host other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the Autumn Oaks Caring Center Staff, Kabul Nursing Home Staff and the Community Hospice of Mtn. Grove for their wonderful care of Floyd.
