Evelyn Margaret Shaw, daughter of the late Verda and Golda (Weaver) Smith, was born March 3, 1929, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life October 26, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was 88 years, 7 months, and 23 days of age.
Evelyn grew up in Mountain Grove. She married John Shaw October 31, 1953 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Five children were born to this union. Evelyn had four children by a previous marriage and John had four children, making a total of thirteen children whom she loved very much. Evelyn was a homemaker most of her life. After her children were raised, she worked for Brown Shoe Company for a few years. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and canned much of her produce. She also enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress.
Evelyn was saved and baptized as a young girl. She enjoyed being very active in church. Evelyn was attending Whetstone Baptist and enjoyed being a part of the congregation as long as her health permitted. She loved to sing and play her guitar, often singing specials at church.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John, on April 24, 2001, three sisters, Dorothy Norton, Lorene Brickell, and Lavond Simpson, one step-child, Janell Milton and one grandson, Timothy Noel.
She is survived by four sons, Gary Burch of Joplin, Missouri, Glenn Burch and his wife, Carrie, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Eddie Burch and his wife, Belinda, of Springfield, Missouri, and Steve Shaw and his wife, Susie, of Cuba, Missouri, five daughters, Norma Burch of Joplin, Missouri, Wanda Noel, Linda Shaw, and Laura Shaw all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and LaVonna Smith and her husband, Darrell, of Springfield, Missouri, three step-children, Richard Shaw of Buena Vista, Colorado, Ron Shaw and his wife, Connie, of Cabool, Missouri, and Sharon Brown and her husband, Scott, of Springfield, Missouri, one brother, Frank Smith of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one sister, Marge Ragsdale of Marshfield, Missouri, twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives, friends, and church family who will miss her greatly.
