Eunice Faye Wheat, daughter of the late Drew and Clara (Wake) Smith, was born on December 21, 1927, in Douglas County, MO, and passed away on October 17, 2008 at her son’s residence in Mt. Pleasant, AR, following a long illness. She was 80 years, 9 months, and 26 days of age.
Eunice grew up and attended schools in Douglas and Howell counties in Missouri and was united in marriage to James Orus Wheat on July 29, 1944 in West Plains, MO.
They made their home in the Vanzant community. Two sons were born to this union. Mr. Wheat preceded her in death on January 25, 2007.
Eunice took great pride in her home and flowers. She also loved to metal detect and was an avid rock collector.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Don Wheat; and a sister-in-law: Vera Lovan.
Eunice is survived by her two sons: Kenneth James Wheat and wife, Linda, of Sparta, MO and Rick Allen Wheat and wife, Penny, of Mt. Pleasant, AR; three grandchildren: Lisa Shortt and husband, Gary, of Oldfield, MO, James Wheat and wife, Kensey, of Violet Hill, AR, and Robert Wheat of Mt. Pleasant, AR; two great-granddaughters: Casey and Jessica Shortt of Oldfield, MO; two brothers: Earl Smith and wife, Kathy, of Mtn. Grove, MO and Don Smith and wife, Ann, of Vanzant, MO; three sisters: Velma Williams and husband, J.D., of Vanzant, MO, Juanita Easter and husband, Lee Vandon, also of Vanzant, MO, and Jeanita Fish and husband, Ross, of Mtn. Grove, MO; a brother-in-law: B.E. Jack Wheat and wife, Lyda, of Vanzant, MO; a sister-in-law: Shirley Chandler and husband, Gene, of Mtn. Grove, MO; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Eunice Wheat were held Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Bud Scherer and Rev. Lee Easter officiating. Jared Moore sang “As The Life Of A Flower” and “Amazing Grace” with Rhonda Hurtt serving as pianist. Pallbearers were Robert Wheat, James Wheat, David Melton, Dacey Hewett, Benny Rodgers, and Danny Fish. Burial was held in the Vanzant Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
