Eugene Sontheimer

September 25, 1959 — January 26, 2025

Mountain Grove

Eugene Kevin Sontheimer was born to Eugene Frank and Virginia (Uhl) Sontheimer on September 25, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on January 26, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri.

On June 22, 1984, Eugene was united in marriage to Rosetta Rhodes in Marshfield, Missouri. Two daughters were born to this union, Angela and Lindsey.

Eugene provided for his family through various positions during his lifetime. Over the course of his work years, he labored as an attendant at Hocker’s Gas Station and as a mechanic at Jim’s Automotive. The famous Brown Shoe Factory is also listed among his former places of employment. He was a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy who could fix almost anything.

When he wasn’t working, the alluringly beautiful hills, forests, and streams of the Ozarks provided a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere in which to camp and fish, of which he took full advantage. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Supporting his team provided pleasurable entertainment for him at home. In addition to his love of nature and sports, he relished making new friends and talking with people about a variety of subjects. One of his favorite topics revolved around the Lord Jesus Christ. His love for the Lord pervaded his life and motivated him to stay very active in the church.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Sontheimer and Virginia Barton, stepfather, Bill Barton, two sisters Denise Smith and Renee Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Rosetta Sontheimer of the home, two daughters, Angela Oliphant and husband, Jeremy, of Mountain Grove, Lindsey Freeman of Mountain Grove, one sister, Michelle Lindsey of St. Louis, seven grandchildren, Kevin, Caleb, Skyler, Mackenzie, Charleigh, Adalynn, Kenneth, lots of nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends who will miss him greatly.

The family is requesting donations to help cover funeral expenses and those donations can be made care of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
