Esperanza “Hope” Conroy, our beloved mother, age 89, daughter of the late Jose Rosario and Sadie (Arbello) Garcia, was born on November 6, 1924 in Los Angeles, California, and passed away peacefully at home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
Hope was united in marriage to Charles Acevedo on June 24, 1945 in Los Angeles, California. Six children were born to this union, Linda, Caroline, Arthur, Christopher, Charles and Cynthia. Mr. Acevedo passed away on October 8, 2013.
She married Lt. Col. James A. Conroy in Bellflower, California in May of 1971.
He also preceded her in death.
Hope was a devoted mother. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and lifelong friends.
She provided child care in her home for many years. Her favorite pastimes were, dressing up to enjoy a good meal out on the town, traveling, and devouring a box of See’s Candy.
Hope was always strong in her Catholic faith.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son: Charles Joseph Acevedo of Mesa, Arizona; a sister: Conzuelo (Connie Martin); and by a half-sister: Lucilla Garcia.
She is survived by her five children: Linda M. Johnson of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Caroline M. Mac Lelland and her husband, James Phillip, of Mesa, Arizona, Arthur Charles Acevedo of Carlsbad, California, Christopher Acevedo and his wife, Nancy Kristine, of Greenwood, California, and Cynthia Ann Acevedo of Anaheim, California; twenty grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her half siblings: Chavelita Sanchez and spouse, Cuquita Gonzales and spouse, and Jose Antonio Garcia and spouse; many nieces, nephews, stepchildren, step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
